How to create an Assessment

A step-by-step guide on creating an Assessment

Below is an extensive step-by-step guide on creating an Assessment.

Select an existing template or start from scratch

Once you've created a Job, start by clicking the Assessment on the purple banner within the Job page:

From here, you have two options:

  • Option 1: Job-Specific Templates

We have hundreds of job-specific assessment templates available for you to select.

You're able to use the search bar at the top of the page to look for a specific assessment for the job, or you can browse through the scrollable list to find a suitable template.

By clicking on a template, you're able to preview the tests from HiPeople's library that are part of the template.

Once you've found a template you'd like to use, simply hit the purple Select button to continue.

Note: These are great as a starting point or inspiration, however, you can also explore the full test library, as we have 450+ tests in our test library.

Next, you will be prompted to set up the Assessment details.

  • Assessment language: Choose one of our 17 supported languages. This determines the language used for email communications, buttons, and instructions shown to candidates during the Assessment.

  • Auto-send assessment results to candidates: When toggled on, candidates automatically receive their scores after completing the Assessment. When toggled off, they only receive a confirmation email. You can still send results manually to individual candidates afterwards.

Once you choose your preferences, click Finish setup.

  • Option 2: Create an assessment with tests from our Test Library

If you'd like to start building your assessment from scratch, use the Create new template button.

Clicking on that button will take you to the Create assessment page:

You can explore the full test library using the + Add tests button. A pop up window will appear and from here you'll be able to:

  • Use the search bar (top of window) to find relevant tests by typing in keywords

  • Change the Test Language to see tests available in different languages (drop down in top right corner)

  • Filter tests using the category filters (for example Hard Skills) - categories on the left hand side

  • Explore the AI suggestions (highlighted in yellow and raised to the top of the list) - you need to make sure you've entered the job description on the job setup stage)

You can dive deeper and explore what a test has to offer by clicking the Preview eye button next to each test module and then clicking the "Preview example question" button.

Selecting modules is easy. Simply click the Add toggle for the tests you'd like to include in your Assessment and then click the purple Use # tests button:

In addition to our extensive range of tests, you can add custom questions to the assessment. This lets you cover topics specific to the position or your organization.

You have the option to set up questions as:

  1. Free text questions

  2. Selection or multiple choice questions

  3. Video recording questions

  4. File upload questions

After you are done with the selection of tests from the library and have added any required custom questions, you can preview the Assessment order and drag and drop the order of the tests if needed.

Once you're happy with the selected tests & the order, simply click the Next step button.

Once you choose your preferences, click Confirm.

A new pop up window will show, prompting you to either:

1. Save the selection of questions & tests as a template

If you would like to save this assessment to use in the future with other roles, all you need to do is enter a Template name and click the Add to library button.

This will then become available for use in future new jobs and will appear in Option 1 of this guide and in the Template Library.

2. Use as a one-off "custom survey"

If you don't wish to save the set of questions and tests for future use, simply click the Use as custom survey button.

Your job is now set, and you're ready to start inviting candidates.
