How to Create and Configure an AI Interview Agent

Updated today

In HiPeople, AI Agents will lead your automated voice interviews. You can customize their personality, voice, and specific behavioral instructions to match your company culture.

Step 1: Navigate to Agent Settings

  1. Log in to your HiPeople Dashboard.

  2. In the bottom-left corner, click on your Profile/Name.

  3. Select Settings from the pop-up menu.

  4. In the left-hand sidebar, click on Agents under the "AI" section.

Step 2: Create a New Agent

  1. Click the + Create Agent button in the top right.

  2. Name your Agent: Give it a clear name (e.g., "Tech Sourcing Assistant" or "Customer Success Interviewer").

  3. Choose an Avatar: Select an image that represents the agent to candidates during the interview process. You can either select one of HiPeople's options, or upload your own image by clicking on the + button.

  4. Set the Primary Language: This is the default language for the agent and is required.

  5. Add a Secondary Language (Optional): If you leave this blank, the interview will proceed entirely in the Primary Language.

    • If you select a Secondary Language (e.g., German), the candidate will be asked at the start of the interview which language they prefer to use.

Note: Use this feature if you are hiring in regions where candidates might be comfortable in multiple languages.

Step 3: Define Personality and Voice

  1. Personality: Choose the appropriate communication style for the role (e.g., Professional, Friendly, or Direct). This dictates the agent’s tone and phrasing.

  2. Voice Selection & Audition: You can toggle between Male and Female voice profiles.

    • Explore Options: Browse the different voice models available.

    • Preview & Test: Click the Play button on any voice to hear a sample.

    • Interactive Check: You can give the agent a few test commands (e.g., "Introduce yourself" or "Ask me about my experience") to hear exactly how that specific voice and persona respond in real-time.

Step 4: Define General Behavior and Objectives

In the Instructions text box, define how the agent should behave regardless of the specific role they are interviewing for. Focus on universal traits, a few examples are:

  • Core Behavior: Define the "vibe" and interaction style (e.g., "Always be encouraging," "Maintain a neutral and objective stance," or "Keep responses concise and professional").

  • Key Objectives: Outline the universal goals for any conversation (e.g., "Ensure the candidate feels welcomed," "Clarify any ambiguous answers," or "Smoothly transition between different topics").

  • Operational Rules: Set constraints like "Wait for the candidate to finish their full thought before speaking" or "Do not provide feedback on the candidate's performance during the call."

Step 5: Save and Deploy

  1. Review your configuration and click Create.

The agent is now active and can be assigned to any AI Interview job across your organization.
